Vector Image
For this assignment, I wanted to display some of the fun things to do in Seattle. I chose the MoPop, the Space Needle and Pike’s Market all in the heart of downtown Seattle to represent on my New Yorker Cover. When I read the assignment, my first thought was Seattle. I jumped right in trying to vectorize the buildings and shortly after starting the Mopop. With my lack of skill and knowledge of illustrator, I made each individual shape for each of the buildings. It turned out better than expected, as you can still see the shape and contour of the roof. I was quite pleased, and then I added the shadows for the humps of the roof. I went with a hazy background color to represent the overcast that is present for three quarters of the year. I learned a couple new things while working on the project, like how to use the gradient tool. That is displayed on the purplish building on the right. One thing I will say is making buildings out of vectorized shapes was not an easy undertaking and hope to figure out a better way for next time, should I have to do a similar assignment.
